Bantony Castle Museum

The Bantony Castle in Shimla is a historic monument associated with the city’s colonial past and the administration of British India. After years of deterioration, the castle was acquired and restored by the Government of Himachal Pradesh, with plans to transform it into a museum and cultural centre. I contributed to the development of the museum experience, using research, visual communication, storytelling, and interactive design to present the layered history and cultural heritage of Shimla in an engaging and accessible way.
Rotoscope

A rotoscope display is an effective method of linear storytelling, combining a physical display with a digital screen.
The printed mural consists of a timeline of significant events in the history of Himachal Pradesh.
In front of it is a screen on a moving panel, this shows animated scenes of events when it is moved in front of the each corresponding date.

AR Gallery

The AR gallery is not any traditional art gallery. The gallery displays illustrations of Himachal Pradesh from British India. When scanned with an app however, the illustrations come alive through animation through augmented reality.
Each animation also carries information about different towns from British-Indian time such as, Kasauli, Subathu, Dharamshala, Dalhousie, Shimla among others.

Graphic Panels

The Graphic panels consists of relevant information in all the galleries of the museum.
The text in the panels has been written by Raja Bhasin, historian and author of Simla, the Summer Capital of British India.
Each Panel has been designed according to it's content. The Art, Life and Culture gallery consists of a hinged display consisting of backlit panels.

Tactile Table

The tactile table display consists of a display of various replicas of important objects related to the traditions and lifestyle of Himachali People. These replicas can be placed next to the screen on a sensor. The sensor then displays details about the object placed.
These replicas range from fruits and vegetables from Shimla, to attire and tools used by the people.
